Farrow & Ball Plantation Shutters for an Edwardian Home | Lincoln & Newark Shutters
Some of my favourite jobs start in the most unexpected places. This one began with a chance conversation in a DIY store car park. One thing led to another, we got talking about plantation shutters, and it turned out we had more in common than shutters: we had both served as police officers. A few weeks later I was measuring up their beautiful Edwardian home.
They had previously had a quote for shutters from a big national company, so it was lovely that this time they chose a local, family-run business to make and fit their made to measure shutters.
Bay window shutters in an Edwardian home
The job was a hallway window and the bay window in their library. Bay windows are notoriously tricky. They are almost never perfectly square, in older houses and newer builds alike, so every angle has to be measured carefully and the shutter frames built to suit. Getting plantation shutters to sit neatly in an Edwardian bay is no mean feat, but that is exactly the kind of job I love.

Painted to match in Farrow & Ball Wimborne White
The customers wanted their shutters bespoke painted, so we had them finished in Farrow & Ball Wimborne White to match the walls and the rest of the house. A custom painted finish means the shutters look like they have always been part of the home rather than something added later.
76mm louvres with a mid rail
We fitted full height shutters with 76mm louvres and a mid rail. The mid rail lets you tilt the top and bottom louvres separately, so you can keep privacy at street level while letting daylight pour in through the top half. On the hallway window it gives a lovely clean look over the staircase.

A library you would never want to leave
Honestly, this is a room I would love in my own house. The shutters give the library that finished look and a peaceful, tranquil feel, the perfect spot to squirrel yourself away with a good book or a bit of computer work.

The customers were over the moon, and I am so pleased with the result that this job will be featured in our new shutters brochure.
